Sambalpur Public Library is a registered society established to cater to the needs of book lovers.
It was formally inaugurated on 29th May 2003 and shifted to the present building on 2nd April,2012. This was made possible due to the generous contributions of Mahanadi Coal Fields Limited (MCL), WODC and MP/MLA LAD funds and Dr Narayani Panda.
Presently the Library has got about 30,000 books and the students preparing for various competitive examinations are utilizing the reading rooms for their preparation.
Classes for grooming of the high school students (class 9,10 & 11) of the local schools are held on every Sunday mornings and lessons on various extra curricular subjects are imparted by the experts in the respective fields. These include lessons on ethics, morality, spirituality, personal hygiene & health, communications, personality development, career building etc.
The Library also conducts National Seminars on concurrent topics in association with Govt departments, Universities etc. The Library has entered into MOU with Sambalpur University, GM University, VSSUT, VIMSAR, IIM & OSOU to utilize their expertise in various fields and thereby enrich the teachings imparted to the students.
The Library has applied to the Govt for allocation of the adjoining 10 decimals area for expansion of the current building so as to accommodate more participants.
