ACTIVITIES

1. BAHI MORA SATHI.

An innovative programme to promote reading comprehension and writing habits among school children was launched by the library which received encouraging response from the children and the parents. The programme was highly appreciated by the Principal Secretary, SME department Govt. of Odisha and Govt. have been pleased to declare 2018 as READING YEAR. The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (ND), the District Magistrate and Collector, Sambalpur, teachers, volunteers and all other stakeholders of the Public Library patronized the said programme. The library after lot of deliberation and discussion has prepared guidelines comprising of sixty five items in an attempt to promote quality in school education

2. DR. JANARDAN PUJARI CENTRE FOR HAPPINESS.

In honour of Dr. Janardan Pujari a saintly physician and eminent son of the soil, a project has been launched titled above where lectures, seminars, discussions on themes and subjects on good living and noble thinking are organized at regular intervals to provide good health and spiritual food which are widely appreciated.

3. MEMORIAL LECTURES.

Series of memorial lectures in remembrance of eminent sons of the soil like Dr. Janardan Pujari a saintly physician, Sri Chandra Sekhar Behera, Bhagirathi Pattnaik, Freedom fighters and statesman Banamali Babu are being organized every year in the library as a routine work where intellectuals of Sambalpur town participate in large number.

4. MONTHLY LECTURE.

Monthly lectures on National and International topics of importance and relevance are also held regularly where reputed personalities of the Society, Doctors, Educationists, Engineers, Teachers and erudite scholars from in and outside of the state deliver their lectures. Selected lectures have now been published in the form of an anthology titled “Thoughts Reflections and Musings” for wider dissemination through the globe. Besides, Selected Experts visiting to six different universities in Sambalpur Mahanagar Nigam also visit the library to deliver lectures in their respective areas of specialization.

5. NATIONAL SEMINARS.

Initiated by the Sambalpur Public Library, in collaboration with Odisha State Open University, Sambalpur and with the support of many other central and state organizations like Ministry of Human Resources Development, Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teachings, TLC, Ramanujan College, University of Delhi, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Literary Foundation, Kolkata, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and Department of Culture Govt. of Odisha, the Library organized a National Seminar on “Public Library and Digital Divide; opportunities and challenges” on 22nd and 23rd February, 2019 to discuss the digitization of Public Libraries which helped the next generation learners to access books and other reading and learning materials online. The discussion of the seminar focused on key issues to create a content-based service model which made the effective linkage between disruptive forces of the technology and adoption of advance technologies for storage, use of digital information of different kinds including preservation across high speed network and application in other emerging areas of library services that facilitated catalyst among the working professionals educators and learners. The full length papers were published in the form of a Book by the Odisha State Open University.

6. STUDY CENTRES.

The City Study Centre of Odisha State Open University (OSOU) a Govt. of Odisha Body is presently working in the library Building catering the thousands of the youth in the region.

7. OBSERVATION OF NATIONAL BOOK WEEK.

The National Book week from 12th November to 19th November is being celebrated as the National Book Week by the Library. Meetings and competitions among the students are held in different High Schools under Sambalpur Municipal Corporation and different blocks. Students and teachers response in this programme is highly encouraging which results in promoting reading habit among children and love for books.
